April 13
April 13, 2005 Meeting of Friends Of Schoodic
Present at the meeting: Garry & Rosemary Levin, Fran Rhodes, Gay Lynn
& Mel Jackson, John Kelly (NPS), Dennis O'Brien (Acadia Partners), Jim McKenna
(NPS), Bob Babcock, Dirk Faegre, Tom Mayer, Jeanie Wilson, Marla Stellpflug
O'Byrne, Ruth Sargent, Jay & Nancy Horschak, Bill Stone, Jim Wagner,
Margaret Grammar, Vicki Rhea
Dirk opened the meeting and asked for a volunteer to take notes in Bill's
absence and Garry reluctantly volunteered.
The minutes of the previous meeting were accepted.
Newsletter
Dirk began by updating us on the newsletter -- said he had gotten some input
but not all. There was some material that he had just received and hadn't
had a chance to edit yet.
Gatehouse
Tom gave an update on the Gatehouse program -- all is pretty well set, he has
24 volunteers, 9 of whom are new -- he reminded everyone of the training dates
(May 14 for Veterans, June 17 for new people) and that the gatehouse would open
on June 23. He sought volunteers for the Memorial Day weekend and told us he had
bought a new coffee maker for the gatehouse.
Business and Planning
Tom suggested that we establish a petty cash fund and everyone agreed that it
was a good idea -- people that need to spend some money can get reimbursed more
easily and more quickly and we won't have to go to FOA for every small receipt
-- Marla said she thought this could be worked out and also suggested setting up
accounts at some key stores -- Dirk and Marla will work the details of these two
options out and let us know
Dirk (or someone else) reminded us that the Picnic date is July 30.
Garry gave an update about the cleanup scheduled for April 30 -- passed out
posters to be hung in local businesses.
Nancy talked about John & Carol's (gatehouse volunteers) wedding which
was held at Schoodic Point and how nice it was.
SEA
Fran gave an update on SEA and the Jackson Lab meeting to gather donations --
said she was writing an article for the newsletter and that the next step would
be a meeting in early May with Kate (NPS).
Architectural Drawing Catalog
Ruth gave an update on the cataloguing of the architectural drawings -- she
and Pauline Angione have put in over 40 hours organizing, sorting and
identifying so far.
Other Updates
Garry gave a brief up date on Artist's in Residence -- no real new news.
Garry gave an update on the FOA Journal article -- done and submitted to
Marla.
Marla talked about the FOA gala Saturday Aug 13 -- has received a donation of
a rug from Rosemary -- Terry Begley, the coordinator of the event, is planning
"a Day at Schoodic" -- seeks some input on what it should be -- Jay
mentioned ride over on the Ferry and picnic lunch from Schoodic Salmon -- other
ideas call Terry at 288-3340.
John Kelly gave an update -- is working on a brochure that explains SERC and
will be available at the Gatehouse -- is seeking a volunteer to take, collect
and organize photos of activities
Jim and Denny gave an update on what they have been doing -- meetings, status
of buildings, marketing of program.
Vicki passed out information on Lyme Disease from Bureau of Health.
Nominations
Dirk brought up officership of organization and after a short discussion of
by-laws and what we need, Jay volunteered to head a nomination committee to
present a slate for Chairman, co-chairman and recorder -- Tom and Rosemary also
volunteered to serve on the committee -- will present a slate at the next
meeting.
The meeting ended and everyone had a good time.
