FOS Meeting

FOS Meeting -- 14 July 2004

The meeting was held at the Schooner Club.  In attendance were steering committee members  Dirk Faegre, Jay Horschak, Bob Babcock, Nancy Horschak, Deedee West, Burt Allaire, Bill Zoellick, Tom Mayer, Rosemary Levin, Garry Levin, Pauline Angione, Jim Wagner, Bill Stone, Stan Torrey,  and Jeanie Wilson.  Dick Bennett and Dorothy Torrey were guests.

Picnic Report

Nancy and Deedee reported.  The picnic is scheduled for July 31. It is open to anyone who is interested in attending.  Park Service employees and volunteers have also been invited.  Invitations have been mailed.  Time for the picnic will be 4:30 to 7:00.  Setup is covered in terms of volunteer help, but we need additional help with cleanup.  Rain location is the Schooner Club -- otherwise it will take place at the picnic pavilion.  The picnic is potluck, the group will supply deserts.  Burt will provide signs to direct people.

ByLaws

The discussion of the bylaws developed into a general question about "membership" -- in the sense intended by the IRS.  The group decided that it does not want a voting membership, and that all voting and legal power over the corporation should reside with the Board.  There were numerous changes that resulted from this fundamental shift (for instance, removing references to voting of members throughout the document) -- but the substance of the rest of the Bylaws, as presented by Bob and Nancy, was left substantially as proposed.

After going through each section of the bylaws, the group directed Bob Babcock  to note the revisions to the document and give the revised draft to Tom.  Tom will work with others, as necessary, to give the draft to an attorney to get an opinion about any technical issues.

Note:  Bob's revised draft is available here.

Oceans Policy

Bob Babcock presented a summary of the Oceans Commissions report and Pew Oceans study and asked that the group consider taking an official stand in support of these documents and write a letter to Maine's Congressional delegation supporting action consistent with the reports.  The group did not take action on this, but agreed to consider it.

Garden by Gatehouse

Dick Bennett suggested that we do something with the garden by the gatehouse.

Trails Report

Jay and Dirk responded to a request from Ed to fix a problem with a drop off in the parking lot where a park visitor injured herself.  They moved stones to fill in the drop off.

Meeting adjourned at 9:13
