Schoodic Committee Meeting

Schoodic Committee Meeting, December 8, 2004

The Schoodic Committee of Friends of Acadia met at 7 PM on December 8, 2004 in the Schooner Club on Big Moose Island.

Nancy Horschak, Ed Pontbriand, Stephanie Clement, Ken Olsen, Garry Levin, Rosemary Levin, Fran Rhodes, Tom Mayer, Jeanie Wilson, Peggy Grammer, Deedee West, Burt Allaire, Dirk Faegre, Jay Horschak, and Bill Zoellick were in attendance.

Ken and Stephanie reported on recent Friends of Acadia activities and on planned activities for the coming year, with a particular focus on activity related to the Schoodic District.

The remainder of the meeting was devoted to a discussion of activites for December 2004 and for the coming year for the Schoodic Committee.  What follows is a summary of the discussion and outcomes.

  • Trail Maintenance (leaf removal and so on) on Schoodic -- this is still an option for this year until it freezes
  • Newsletter.  There was general agreement that it would have been better to have sent this out in the fall.  There was also agreement that we need to keep working on it -- and should shoot for mailing it shortly after the first of the year -- Garry will take charge of this
  • Gatehouse -- Tom will participate, but will not take sole responsibility for this this year.  He needs help.  There was also discussion of training volunteers for next year.  Ed suggested that there might be two levels of training -- one for beginners, and one for people who have already had experience.
  • Fence -- good progress so far.  Dirk and others will continue through the winter.
  • Support Kate Petrie's work -- Fran will talk to Kate to see what might be done.
  • Shoreline cleanups for next year -- Ed Pontbriand agreed to take charge of running the shoreline cleanups next year.
  • Healthy walks -- it was decided that this was not necessarily a Schoodic Committee activity.

 meeting adjourned at 8:50
