FOS Meeting – 10 December 2003
Attending: Garry Levin, Rosemary Levin, Pauline Angione, Bill
Zoellick, Stan Torrey, Tom Mayer, Jim Wagner, Bill Stone, Burt Allaire, Jeannie
Wilson, Dirk Faegre
Discussion of Operating Rules
Tom read through the proposed rules that emerged from the work
of the group assigned to suggest operating prodedures. (See the notes on
operating procedures for more details about this effort.)
Stanley asked who (which officer) looks after the membership
list. The consensus was that, initially,
it would be the secretary.
One error was noted in the operating procedures as posted on
the Web it should read Schoodic Futures Board of
Directors.".
Jim Wagner moved, Garry Levin seconded a motion to transmit
the proposed rules to the Schoodic Futures Board for acceptance
Motion passed
Activities for Next Year
Dirk passed out the list of suggested activities.
He explained that it covered a broad range of activities, some blue sky, some concrete.
Discussion of cleanup.
How
often? Dirk noted that there is a
need after every storm
One possibility is to have a regular clean up scheduled,
for example, the first Saturday of every month.
Alternatively, we could create a season-long calendar including other
things, other than clean-up.
Tom suggested to Dirk that he pull together a schedule of
cleanups, looking toward one a month, from May through October.
Trail
maintenance.
Dirk noted that this is not something
that we can just decide to do it needs close coordination with the trail
engineers in the Park. Dirks
recollection, on the other hand, is that Bill and Ed have a list of things that
they would like done. Dirk will
follow up with Ed and Bill of the Park Service.
Gatehouse:
There is a committee
Bill Zoellick, Earl Blackney, Bill Weidner, and Tom Mayer that is tasked with
setting training and orientation procedures.
It was noted that training involves two levels at the highest level,
there are safety requirements. There is also stuff that makes you a better
volunteer. It was suggested that this second category consisted of skills and
knowledge that a volunteer could improve over time.
Gatehouse coverage: one key
question is, could we cover the entire schedule?
The strong sense of the group was yes, we can. The
group decided that we will communicate to the Park that we are interested in
covering the entire schedule.
Ferry we will also provide coverage of the Ferry,
coordinating with Mike Greenwood to determine schedules, commitment of
personnel.
Fence deconstruction.
Dirk
will look into whether there is a way to do this, and do it relatively
inexpensively.
Logo
13 people voted for logos online. There was one first
place vote each for logo designs 2, 4, and 6. Ten of the people casting
votes used their first place votes to indicate that none of the designs seemed
right. A majority of the people voting chose only the "none of the
above" option, indicating no further preference. Put simply, the people
casting votes feel, in general, that FOS should continue working on the
logo.
There
was discussion of how to proceed with this some discussion of possibly
having a logo contest. There was
some sense that we are not ready to move forward with this immediately.
Discussion was tabled--the group will take the logo issue up again some other
time in the future.
Newsletter
Tom reported on results from the last newsletter.
The mailing to members produced no response.
However, the bulk mailing resulted in about $300 in donations and 10 new
members. There was discussion of
when to have the next newsletter. The
group decided to do one in the spring in advance of the season, cleanups,
and so on.
Dirk asked whether FOS would be willing to share its mailing
list with Friends of Tunk. The
sense of the group was that we need to clean up our list, and get a clearer
understanding with members, before we can share lists.
Meeting adjourned at 9 PM.
